Visiting Teacher: Joseph Samya – 14-16 September 2019

Joseph Samya

Joseph has been teaching full time since he was 19 years old. He competed in Latin, competed in competitions in Melbourne before moving to London to pursue his dance career. He trained and taught with world champions for many years, before falling in love with Tango. He worked with many of the best Tango dancers that visited London and taught in his studio. For the last 11 years, he has been specializing in tango. He has worked with Clarissa and Jonathan learning from them and trading ideas in how to teach with them. There have been many other notable tango teachers with whom he has worked.

2.00-3.30pm – Workshop 1: Basics from another perspective.

An exercise in integrating what works for you. If this is the beginning of your journey, you will find that as you develop you will get many ideas…. Important to learn to pick and chose.

4.00-5.30pm – Workshop 2: Quality of movement. Walks, cruzada, side step into side cruzada. This is about moves that you have done before with the aim to experience the next level of connecting in leading and following, allowing for greater options in movement and therefore better musicality and flow.

The workshops will be followed by dinner at 6.00 pm at the Maroochydore RSL for those that want to join us.

DJ – Arda Bahadir:

The first time I met Tango was years ago, in a little fisherman town near the Black Sea, Turkey.

By that time, I didn’t have the chance to take lessons and attend milongas, hence I had no idea that I was one day going to be addicted to this magic …. until I moved to Brisbane.

Today, I find myself lucky not only being a dancer but also a DJ too, with the encouragement of Hugo Fernandez and Chris Han.
